Think of that conversation you look forward to the least. You know the one:
Make a list for yourself of all conversations you don't want to have, really give it some thought, and rank it according to the thing you want to do least. Date the list and put it in an envelope. Wait a couple days and then open it.
This is your to-do list for the next year, and it is already ranked for you.
You need to do a bunch of other things too, eat better, exercise more, and create a bunch of micro-goals, but you will never regret working those relationship based challenges.
- asking your boss for a raise
- telling a friend you are mad at them
- asking a co-worker why they talk bad about you
- telling your doctor about that thing
- apologizing to your wife for being a jerk
- or that thing you were supposed to call your friend about, but then you forgot and now you're embarrassed because it's been like 6 months and they haven't called you back....
